What's new — a fresh look and seasonal catches

Hi everyone! I'd like to share a few things I've been working on in Fish & Chill. Lately I've been spending time on both the look of the game and new fish to catch.

A fresh look for the menus

I've updated the look of the menus and worked on the details you see while playing. Item slots, rewards and the collection should now feel more consistent and easier to read. I've also redone the food and drink icons in the tavern so they fit better with the fish and the rest of the artwork.

These are sometimes small changes, but you spend quite a bit of time in these windows. I want them to feel pleasant to use, too.

Different seasons, different catches

I've added five seasonal events and 25 seasonal fish. Winter, Easter, summer, autumn and Halloween will each bring their own catches. The events follow the real calendar and start automatically, so these fish won't be around all year.

The collection shows which event a fish belongs to, with its availability dates and a countdown. I've also given the fish little stories. I wanted them to feel a bit more mysterious than just another entry in the collection.

A few of the new visitors

The Pumpkin Puffer appears at Halloween. Locals say a pumpkin lantern once fell off the pier, grew fins and now comes back with the same suspicious grin.

The Ghost Carp is a pale fish with a quiet glow beneath its scales. According to local legends, it guards the names of lost anglers and only appears when the bay remembers them at Halloween.

Summer has the Sunstripe Mackerel, a turquoise fish with golden stripes. And in winter, you can look out for the Snowbelly Perch. I like the idea that coming back at a different time of year gives you something new to look for.

I'm still testing and polishing things as I get the demo ready. I'm looking forward to seeing which catches you like the most.

If you like how Fish & Chill is coming along, adding it to your Steam wishlist would mean a lot.

See you at sea!
